Has anyone any idea what "further installation" is required and how can this be accomplished?. What does this note mean?. Like many other posters here I have the latest manufactures drivers, I have the latest W updates, I have run the troubleshooter useless. Some of the devices seem to work OK, some seem to partially work. I cannot find any information about this logged event in the MS knowledge database s. Do I miss something? I have seen that message a few times when installing new builds , clicking on it just makes it go away and as I have not experienced any problem with any device, I had assumed that windows sorted itself after delivering the message.

It is not clear if the message is just a log note that is no longer relevant or is a log note of a current condition. I am not comfortable if there are unresolved issues with drivers as they can cause subtle problems that are hard to resolve. My video card also has this "requires further installation" comment as do the network adaptor and the MS web-cam and microphone.
It usually means that some or all facilities are not available, so the device is operating in some sort of degraded mode. Thank you for your response, I did try your suggestion and it reports "Device Software - No Action Needed" so maybe I just should ignore the Event log.
Would be nice to know for sure though. I would consider uninstalling the drivers and looking on manufacturers site I note that you have the latest drivers, but wonder if it is something in the installation. Martmcd - thank you very much. In your first paragraph, I believe that you have identified what I was doing wrong or misunderstanding. The Event I was looking at was not the final event in the driver installation process but one of the early ones.
If I examine the last log entry for each of these devices, the installation process seems to have completed correctly - status 0x0. Which I assume is OK. I suspect that the scanner not recognising the printer is a different problem and I will chase that separately.
I hope other posters raising this "further installation" issue read this and re-examine their logs, they may find the same situation and realise that there is no problem.
